Detroit Institute of Arts Tonight

Hello dear People,

Sharing a snippet of rehearsal from this week. “She Does Not Brave the War… but She Saves the Day.” In the setlist I am exploring bravery, conflict, honoring hidden figures, and of course, inquiries into the nature of love. It is a very rare thing for me to have the chance to play with such a large band and admittedly thrilling. Since My Brightest Diamond albums have had such varied instrumentation, I have been finding excuses to arrange the songs for string quintet, piano and drums. It’s fun to work out these kinks and bring back some of the older material and even paper-mâché puppets for this all ages crowd.

I’m very grateful to this band, Justin Snyder (piano), Marion Hayden (bass), Emelyn Bashour (violin I), Michelle May (violin II), Magnolia Rohrer (viola), King Sophia (cello) and Melissa Coppola (drums). Also thanks to Clay Gonzalez for coming in last minute to polish off a couple arrangements too.

We will be filming tonight, so I hope there will be some snippets to share in the future. As always thank you for your support, dear Reader. I live on a wing and prayer much of the time, and your listening & sharing this music helps Black Sheep like me able to keep making music. Thank you.
